2008 Officer Down Golf Tournament

On June 20, 2008 the very first annual Officer Down! Golf Tournament took place at Shadow Valley Golf Course out on Hwy 55. This tournament raises funds for law enforcement officers and their families who are in need. All funds go into the Idaho Heroes Assistance Fund established under the direction of the Idaho Peace Officers Association.

Opening ceremonies included a welcoming address by long time law enforcement officer and advocate Vern Blisterfeldt. The Roll of Honor, the names of all law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, was read by Meridian police officer Michele DeGrange followed by a twenty-one gun salute by the Honor Guard of the  Idaho Correctional Center.  The tournament’s Fallen Hero was dedicated to Idaho Fish and Game Officer Bill Pogue, killed in the line of duty January 5, 1981.

All in all, 160 golfers participated in the tournament. Cigars were handed out during play by tournament director Frank Craig and a raffle of door prizes was held during lunch.

One aspect of the Officer Down! Tournament is that it gives law enforcement officers throughout Idaho the chance to meet other fellow officers who they may not have seen for some time. Teams from all of the state attended.
