Dispatcher enjoys making a difference

delisaorren

Name, rank and hometown: DeLisa Orren, Regional Communication Officer (Dispatcher), grew up in Grand Junction, Colo., and moved to Pocatello in 1991.

Organization: Idaho State Police.

Years of service: 8.

Most memorable experience on duty: My most memorable experience was probably taking a call in December of 2002 telling me that on of my officers who was out on a crash had just been struck by another vehicle.

Favorite part of job: I really love the people I work with. Our dispatchers, officers and the office staff make this a great place to work.

Worst part of job: Phone calls during heavy snow and crash days looking for road reports -- the transportation department updates the road reports on a regular basis -- they can be easily accessed by calling 511.

Why you serve: I really like to be able to go home at the end of my shift with the feeling that I was able to make a positive difference for someone.

Family names and ages: Nichole Danielle Orren, 18, and Scott Allen Orren, 16.

Future plans: I really enjoy what I am doing right now. At this time, my plans are to continue my career with the Idaho State Police.

(Hometown Heroes is an Idaho State Journal Sunday feature aimed at honoring local men and women who serve in police, emergency services and military units.)
